Galaxy Tab 2 Review

Samsung Galaxy Tab2 is the latest in Samsung Galaxy Tab range. Tab 2 is reportedly priced to be more than $400 in Europe.

The Tab 2 is the successor to the original Galaxy Tab, the 7-inch Galaxy and will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new Galaxy Tab 2 comes with almost the same specs as the original Tab, but with a revamped chassis and body.  The Tab 2 (7-inch) is the first tablet from Samsung with the Ice Cream Sandwich, a most recent update to Google Android.

It was reported that Samsung will not host a conference at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, however the Company is set to demo the Galaxy Tab 2. The Tab 2 will soon hit stores, it might or might not be a critical threat to the Kindle Fire and other 7-inch tablets.

Let see the review and agree if it is worth geting it .

Engine Room

The Tab 2 is powered with 1GHz dual-core, 1GB RAM, which is not too bad, but compare to the tablet on the market some comes with Quad-core is not good either.

The Tab 2 seems to start fast which is very impressed  for 1GHz Processor. Even though powering up was fast however the Tablet wasnt too fast when flicking through varying menus didn't muster up any lag and flicking from different apps, this comfirmed the weaknesses in the Galaxy Tab 2's power.

The Design

We love our gadget to be slim and light Galaxy Tab 2 measuring at 193 x 122 x 10 mm, 344g, is not exactly the thinest or slimest tablet. The original Galaxy Tab 2 features a rounded silver back instead of its former’s thick slab with white back. The Tab2 will certainly be an apt gadget for users, who want a high performance small tablet PC mainly for on-the-move uses.

You would have thought the newest Sasmung Tab would have been better than the previous modle but sadly no the Tab 2 isnt new at all as it looks identical to its predecessor and is slightly taller broader and thinner than its cousins.

Even with that thete is nothing about Tab 2 which will blow your mind, The build quality is decent enough with its sturdy aluminium back panel but there's just no visual joy here.

In comparison with Tab 7.7, the Tab 2 is 9g heavier and 2.2mm thicker, even though the difference isn’t much but it is enough to make the tablet feel chubby. Compare to the original Tab, Tab 2 has a small and sleek form factor with better performance and the lack of jagged edges makes it fit the hand a lot better

Is good to have different choices but sometimes consumers can easily be overwhelmed by different products options with no clear differences in features other than their respective sizes.

Now for example why would I choose the Tab 2 over the Tab 7.0 Plus? or pick an 8.9 or 7.7 Tab over its 7-inch counterparts other than to get a slightly larger screen? Rather than wrestling with all those choices and questions, the average tablet buyer will just pick up an iPad. The only decision you will have to make with iPad is whether you want Wi-Fi only or 3G rather tha choosing the size (which most of them are almost the same size).

The Display

Tab 2 is  7-inch tablet, 1024x600, PLS TFT, 170 ppi, this is not complete bad but compare to other samsung Tablet like the Tab 7.7 is quite a disappointment, as the display is in PLS TFT screen is not as great compares to Super AMOLED.

The screen itself will use a 1024x600 pixel PLS (plane-to-line-switching) LCD display, which offers better viewing angles than those found in conventional LCDs.

Samsung has not brought on any more significant modifications in specs department of the tablet. It has almost kept the spec of the original Tab which was launched 18-month ago. The new tablet doesn’t have AMOLED display as well.

Software/ Operating System

The major advantage and most spotlighted feature of Galaxy Tab 2 compare to its original Tab is the fact that the tablet comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) + TouchWiz UX.

ICS is a more refined tablet experience and introduces a lot more cross-platform phone and slate functions than the Honeycomb platform, however the new version of Google Android will be appearing on many more tablets this year. Although the Galaxy Tab 2 will be a key ICS product out in stores.

Camera

The Tab 2 comes with 3MP rear , VGA front facing, which is ok since the tablet is not the most traditional of photographic devices. The devices have decent resolution on the front for video calling; 1080p recording.

Storage

The Tab 2 comes with the option of 8/16.32GB of internal storage. With the MicroSD card (you can expand the storage up to 32GB) minimum storage is 40GB and maximum is 64Gb which is not bad at all.

Battery

Tab 2 comes with a 4,000mAh battery, which have enough power to run dual-cores system.

Connectivity

Tab 2 comes with a basic connectivity, such as Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct. With regards to connectivity, Samsung has significantly juiced up its AllShare service and actually made it work anywhere.

Conclusion

If the price of Tab 2 is as reported over $400 this will be to high for the tablet with is spec.

At the moment Android tablets are competing more on price (for example Amazon's $199 Kindle Fire). By Pricing a tablet at more than $400, even with a high-quality screen and other nice features, doesn't seem like a savvy strategy.

Beyond competing with other Android tablet makers, would you pay $400 to buy Tab 2 or pays $499 and get the Apple 16GB Wi-Fi iPad? this is why Apple continues to lead the tablet pack and will continue to lead it as long as the top Android device makers fail to compete on price and simplicity.

Samsung have already released the more powerful Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (1.2Ghz) and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 (1.4Ghz), why on earth would you bring less spec tablet again?

Other than that, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a decent update for those who like the 7-inch tablet size but the spec are not great. The Galaxy Tab 2 is set for release in the U.K in March. Details on its pricing are not yet announced.
