HTC Edge Review

HTC Edge might be the first smartphone to come rocking with Nvidia's Tegra 3 power, which is Quad-core smartphone processors: passe. The Nvidia Tegra 3 is expected earlynext year for smart phones, so the Edge could launch in the first months of 2012.

The Engine Room

Quad-core smartphone processors: the new standard in mobile performance. Sports with four 1.5GHz chips doing all the hard-work, allowing the processor to simultaneously run multiple sets of program instructions. Other than that, specs should be pretty similar to the recently announced HTC Rezound, albeit with a bigger screen at 4.7 inches.

The Tegra 3 (codenamed Kal-El) is reported to be blazingly fast. NVidia’s 1.5GHz dual-core Tegra 2 has been nothing but positive, means the device will have four 1.5GHz processors. Apps on Tegra 2-powered phones run smoothly with little to no choppiness, and whipping through menu screens has been a breeze. Naturally, then, the Tegra 3 experience should only be better.

Quad-core phones could allow users of Google's operating system to experience even more iOS-like games that require a lot of power and put greater tools in the hands of developers.

The Design

At a purported 10mm+ thick, the Edge is no skinny-minny, but with Beats Audio, Bluetooth 4.0 and possibly even HTC Sense 4.0 - there's plenty to get excited about. There's a lack of 4G action, just 21Mbps HSDPA, but this could be a good thing when it comes to the chances of a UK launch.

o word on the Android version, but if it does arrive in Q1 or Q2 next year, as is estimated, and it's not rocking Ice Cream Sandwich we'd be surprised.

Display

The smartphone has a 4.7-inch AMOLED 720p display 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera with an LED flash, putting it up there with the top-specced Android devices,  with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels.

Camera

The Edge with have an 8-megapixel rear facing camera and 2 MP front facing camera with an LED flash with a 28mm, f/2.2 lens. Beats Audio is expected as standard and a front for video chat, technology Audio beats and the first with the interface Sense 4.0

Storage

Internal storage will likely be bumped to 32GB of onboard storage.

Battery

Still, there’s apparently been enough space for a 1,800 mAh battery, alot of power which makes it perfect for the quad-core processor

Others

Obviously with HTC’s latest acquisition, the Beats Audio Package will be loaded on the Endeavor just as it is on the HTC Rezound and presumably the Beats headphones will also be included
