Nokia is to release it latest handset in Lumia family called Lumia 900, Let see if the device will stand against the mighty Apple iPhone 4S? Since Nokia’s stock begins to rise again. MyProffs decided to compare the Lumia 900 and the toughest test, comes face-off with Apple's iPhone 4S.
Engine Room
Tie: iPhone 4S: Apple A5 (800MHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor)
Tie :Lumia 900 : 1.4GHz MSM8255T Snapdragon chipset
The Nokia Lumia 900 is only powered by a 1.4GHz single core Scorpion CPU, which offers up more than enough power to drive the OS at a snappy rate of knots. The processor is faster for Windows Operating System. The phone sadly comes with only 512MB RAM but again it is ok for Windows OS.
On the other hand the might iPhone 4S features dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 chip that performs admirably. It's fast and efficient and leaves the iOS platform feeling brisk, even when under duress. iPhone 4S processor is a PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which handles even the most labour intensive 3D titles with aplomb.
With the Lumia 900, the device offers 512MB RAM while iPhone 4S is about 1GB. The iPhone 4S is fast too so you can’t really distinguish which performs better between two.
Software
1st : iPhone 4S : iOS
2nd : Lumia 900: Windows 7 ‘Mango’
Nokia Lumia 900 uses Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 operating system (Mango), the newest version of Microsoft's operating system which is fantastic. Mango is a user friendly and extremely easy to set-up and benefits from a rapidly growing catalogue of quality apps on offer via the Windows Phone Marketplace.
However Apple's iPhone 4S runs on the fabulous iOS though, which is perhaps the only mobile platform that is able to rival Windows Phone for simplicity and Android for power. And the platform gets the benefits of over 550,000+ apps available in the Apple App Store, which allow users to make as much (or as little) of their device as they like.
Applications for iPhone 4 S will be available on Apple App Store; however it will take some time for the number of applications supporting iOS 5 to increase.
- the highly intriguing Siri personal organisation, voice recognition software that’s been hard wired in to the iPhone 4S
- iOS 5 has basically robbed all the best bits of Android and integrated them in to its own UI. This is not intended as a slur. Android has done plenty of robbing itself and, it’s all to the consumer’s benefit if such systems borrow from one another. Right now, though, iOS is just a little fresher but that could all change when Ice Cream Sandwicharrives on the scene
The Display
1st : iPhone 4S : 3.5-inch, 960x640px, 326ppi, LCD with IPS
2nd : Nokia : 3.7-inches AMOLED display,800x480 pixels, 217PPi
Nokia 900 screen is a little bigger at 3.7-inches compare to the iPhone 4S screen. The Nokia Lumia 900 resolution is 800x480 pixels as its smaller stable-mate and consequently the pixel density is a little lower at 217 pixels-per-inch (PPI), but this is still better than its opponent's offering and should give decently crisp images and video. Gorilla Glass has been used here so it’ll be quite resilient and it features multi-touch support.
The iPhone 4S boasts Apple's fabled Retina Display, which offers up a resolution of 640x960 on a 3.5-inch screen. The display has a pixel density of 330PPI, which gives it pin sharp clarity and we really couldn't find a thing to fault it on - it's bright, extremely colourful and responds wonderfully to the faintest touch.
The Design
1st: Lumia 900: 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5 mm, 160 g
2nd: iPhone 4S : 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm, 140 g
Both Apple and Nokia produced solid devices. Although Nokia has a track record is perhaps more famous though and it shows in the Lumia 900, which is a fabulously designed smartphone boasting a solid polycarbonate frame that feels like it will go on forever.
Apple's iPhone 4S is fabulous also, It feels balanced in the hand and evenly weighted, although most people prefer the design of 3 and 3G is nice to hold on the hand.
Camera
1st: iPhone 4S: 8MP rear, VGA front camera , 1080p video capture
2nd: Lumia 900: 8MP rear, 1MP front, 3264x2448 pixel resolution, dual LED flash and 720p
The Lumia 900 packs the same 8-megapixel primary camera as the Lumia 800, complete with a Carl Zeiss lens at 3264x2448 pixel resolution, autofocus, geo-tagging, dual LED flash and 720p video capture. The only real difference is the Lumia 900 features the addition of a 1-megapixel secondary camera.
While Camera quality of Apple iPhone 4S is fantastic even the older version. Apple iPhone 4S got improved camera to 8MP camera with features like autofocus, LED flash. This makes the camera, studded in Apple iPhone 4S, a super cool one. Captured stills are bright even in tougher conditions and we were very impressed by the brisk shutter speed and on the fly editing capabilities the device offers. The 4S captures video in 1080P only which is both a blessing and a curse as the captured videos, although beautifully recorded, take up lots of space on the device's non-expandable memory. For video calling the iPhone 4S features a VGA secondary camera which records 480P video.
Coclusion

Lumia 900 display is not that impressive (AMOLED but with a resolution of only 480 x 800 pixels).
Also Lumia does not have room for customization because of the lack of applications for Windows phones. Therefore iPhone is better phone here but if you want a phone other than Androids or iOS, the Nokia Lumia 900 is for you.
For those that want fast data speeds, specifically, data speeds that can get up to 10 times faster than those on 3G, you’ll have to go with the Lumia 900 as the iPhone 4S is a 3G phone through and through.
