HTC Amaze 4G Vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus

HTC Amaze is out this month and is packing a 4.3-inch 960x540 qHD Super LCD display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 1080p video capture, NFC, 42Mbps HSPA+ connectivity, and Android 2.3.4 beneath HTC Sense.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Google Nexus Prime) comes with Ice Cream Sandwich, rumors to be running 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

Just which one is the better phone.? Is it the HTC Amaze or Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Google Nexus Prime)?.

The Design

1st: Nexus Prime 135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94mm, 135g

2nd: HTC Amaze 4G: 130.0 x 65.6 x 11.8 mm, 173g

Both phones has good looking piece of kit,  but most people the like the phone to be light and slimmer. Galaxy Nexus might be bigger than Amaze but it is lighter than Amaze and thinner, the thinkness might be due to the curved shape of the phone.

Display

1st: Nexus Prime : 4.65 Inch Super HD AMOLED 1280×720 Display

2nd: HTC Amaze 4G: 4.3″ S-LCD capacitive touchscreen 960×540

HTC Amaze but the device has low resolution (960 x 540) compare although is not too bad for the screen of this size.

On the other hand Nexus has Super HD AMOLED display although Prime has 1280 X 720 displays is pretty good. We haven’t seen a phone with this high of a screen resolution, the highlight of the phone may not be hardware. Prime with 1280 x720 it’s going to be the most amazing display on any phone out there. Although for some, with 4.6 inches could prove to be too large. The Google Nexus Prime has a larger screen, but it remains to be seen whether that will translate to better pixel density.

Engine Room

1st: HTC Amaze 4G:Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 Dual-Core 1.5GHz

2nd: Nexus Prime   :TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz

Amaze is powered with 1.5 dual-core process which is a bit faster than 1.2 GHz on Nexus.

Camera

1st: HTC Amaze 4G: 8MP rear, 2MP front, 1080p video

2nd: Nexus Prime  : 5MP LED Flash rear, 1.3MP front, 1080p video capture

This is a big let-down on Nexus as the device comes with only 5MP rear, even with a 1080p video capture is still not as good as Amaze. Amaze has 8MP rear and 2MP front compare to 1.3MP on Nexus. More than any other feature, HTC and T-Mobile tout the Amaze 4G's camera has two features purportedly take this 8-mexapixel shooter beyond.

One of the features which stood up on HTC Amaze camera is the clear short as the device use the High Dynamic Range feature to get more detail while taking pictures in high contrast lighting with a Dual LED flash means the camera double your flash power with two LED lights and capture amazing photos, even in less-than-ideal lighting situations, while Nexus has only single LED flash.

One is a new shooting mode called SmartShot ( The Smartshot captures five photos and creates the best shot using clear faces with smiles and no blinking, while the PerfectPics is a separate album in the gallery created by scoring and filtering the best photos to the surface), which works with portraits of people's faces. It takes five shots in quick succession and automatically brings the "best" elements of them all together. If you're blinking in one picture, making a strained expression in another, and moving your chin in the third, the final image should show open eyes and a smile, while all in focus. For this reason HTC Amaze has a good camera features.

HTC Amaze

Connectivity

1st: HTC Amaze 4G: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, 4G, Wi-Fi hotspot, HDMI out,

2nd: Nexus Prime   : Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC support, Wi-Fi  tendering

Both phones have got the basics connectivity. However Amaze has 4G this might not be a big deal in the UK that there’s no 4G radio or NFC technology included but in other countries where both infrastructures exist, that could be quite a let-down. The other thing which makes Amaze better than Nexus in term of connectivity is the ability to connect the phone to your TV using HDMI-out which is quite relevant these days as more.

Battery Life

1st: Nexus Prime :1750mAh Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G

2nd: HTC Amaze 4G: 1730mAh, Up to 8 hours  talktime

Its is a tie as both phone have the same talk time even with smaller battery on Amaze.

Software

1st: Nexus Prime : Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

2nd: HTC Amaze 4G: Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 and HTC Sense 3.0

Although both phones are running Android but Nexus is running the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Its reported that the perfomance on Ice Cream Sandwich is very good,  with addition feature like improve security, improved OTA update, Google music, better look, better sound, better PC and Mac intregration and much more. The possibility of having the Chrome browser on Android phones sounds great, even with the already superior browser that ships with the OS. while Amaze is only running Gingerbread.

Storage

Tie: HTC Amaze 4G: 16GB with microSD

Tie: Nexus Prime  : 16/32GB + microSD

Both has 16GB build in storage with microSD card slot which can take up to 32GB cards.

Price

1st: HTC Amaze 4G : $259.99 (16GB) with two years contract

2nd: Nexus Prime : £515 (16GB)

Since there is no prices for the Prime, so this category is inconclusive until when we get the price for Prime.

Conclusion

Tie: Amaze 4GHz

Tie: Galaxy Nexus

Nexus Prime comes with the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, running on 1.2GHz dual-core bigger screen with Super AMOLED display,  while Amaze is powered by 1.5GHz and is likely to get update to Ice Cream Sandwich. therefore we giving a tie for now.
