Although the original iPad has had the lion's share of the tablet market since its launch, there are now plenty of other devices on offer with the Android-powered and bigger than ever Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V looking like one to consider. We threw their spec sheets in the ring together to find out. It’s the Apple iPad 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V.
The Design
- 1st: Galaxy Tab 10 V: 10.1 x 6.9 x 0.34 in, 19.9 oz/ 599g
- 2nd: iPad 2 : 9.5 x 7.31 x 0.34 in, 21.3 oz/ 613g
There is two thing which people are soo keen about one is how thin? and second is how heavy? Even though and Apple has made a few jaws drop with the launch of a tablet that’s 33 per cent thinner than the original and even skinnier than the iPhone 4, but Galaxy Tab 10 at 10.1 inc is slimmer than iPad 2 and lighter
Display
1st: Galaxy Tab 10V: 10.1-in. (diag); 1280×800; 149 ppi
One of the bigger Galaxy Tab’s most popular featureis its large 10-inch display. The LCD screen has IPS which means that you get a decent viewing angle - the same as with the iPad 2 - but the 10.1 also has the advantage with its relatively high 1280x800px resolution, as well as a proper 16:9 aspect ratio for widescreen video viewing rather than the slightly awkward size that Apple presents.

Engine Room
- Tie: iPad 2 : 1GHz dual-core Apple A5
- Tie: Galaxy Tab 10V : 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 with ARM Cortex 9 CPUs & GeForce GPU
iPad 2 was given a huge boost with the inclusion of Apple's new A5 chip, replacing the original model's A4 chipset. It's a dual-core processor which means that it measures up to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1’s Nvidia Tegra 2 in terms of power and, indeed, they’re both based on the architecture of the ARM Cortex-A9 family.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs on dual-core 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The Apple iPad runs on 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 processor having a huge upgrading over the earlier iPad’s A4 and has faster graphical performance than the older version.
Camera
- 1st: Galaxy Tab 10V :8MP rear, front 2MP; rear 3MP with 1080p recording
- 2nd: iPad 2 : front 0.3MP (640×480); rear 1MP (720p); 30fps recording on both
Galaxy Tab beats the iPad 2 in the category of camera, as it features 8-MP rear camera with 1080p HD capture capability and a 2-MP front camera for video calling. The iPad features a rear camera of 0.7 mega pixel with 720P HD capture capability and VGA front camera for video calling.
Connectivity
- 1st: Galaxy Tab 10V : Wifi (802.11a/b/g/n; Bluetooth 2.1 USB, 3G
- 2nd: iPad 2 :Wifi (802.11a/b/g/n; Bluetooth 2.1 HDMI, 3G
The Samsung Galaxy Tab and The iPad 2 have the same Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, and optional 3G connectivity. Both the devices lack a microSD card slot but there is an HDMI output included in iPad 2.
With Apple you can bus a cable for $39 to bring HDMI-out to the iPad 2. This round is rather like watching that video of two cyclists fighting but it seems that the Apple tablet has managed to weakling its way to a victory over its puny opponent.
Battery Life
- Tie: Galaxy Tab 10 V : 7000mAH 3.7V Li-polymer,
The original iPad ran a 6600mAh unit and managed the same 10 hour video playback as the sequel. Now, while the iPad 2 probably has something marginally more suped up to cope with the extra power under the hood, we can’t imagine that it’s much bigger than that on offer in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. What’s more, the SamTab has some pretty good low power units of its own. So, all things being equal, they look about the same.

Software
- 1st: Galaxy Tab 2 : Android Honeycomb 3.1
- 2nd: iPad 2 : iOS 4.3.3
In fairness, Google’s Android 3.0 looks pretty smashing as well. The fact is that the Android OS simply has to win for two very good and very well-documented reasons. The first is that the Honeycomb offers a full browsing experience while the iPad will give you everything except Abode Flash which is a bit of a bummer because it’s still an important enough web tool to miss.
Another reason is that, although mobile hotspot creation has been added for iPhone 4 in iOS 4.3, it’s not present in the iPad 2. Now perhaps that’s not as relevant when talking about a tablet which has 3G anyway but you can bet that there’s a situation out there where you’ll miss it.
Memory/Storage
1st : Galaxy Tab 10V:1GB RAM; 16GB flash storage
2nd: iPad 2 : 500MB RAM; 16GB flash storage
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V dispenses with the piddly 16GB model. Fortunately for Samsung, Apple doesn’t do SD either, so it’s a dead heat in this category.
While talking about storage, iPad is superior with its 64GB model. But the Samsung tabs beat the iPad 2 by 1GB RAM as iPad 2 has 512 MB RAM only.

Apps
1st: Apple iPad 2 : 65,000+
- 2nd: SamTab 10.1 : 100+
Apple has more than 500000 dedicated apps available for download for its tablets whiel there is more than 520000 app for Android. Now, while this is bound to change within the next 6-12 months for Honeycomb, there is going to be a bit of a lean spell and playing Angry Birds small screen on your 10-inch tab is a little soul destroying. Big win for the iPad 2.
Price
Tie: iPad 2 : £399 (16GB)
- Tie: Galaxy Tab 10: £399 (16GB)
- It is a tie since both device sale for £399
-
Conclusion
- 1st: Galaxy Tab 10
- 2nd: iPad 2
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 each cost £500 at the moment — and the fact that the iPad 2 is more mature and commands substantially more marketshare than all 10-inch Android tablets combined, most consumers will likely select the iPad 2 over the Galaxy Tab 10.1. To be sure, the iPad 2 does everything most consumers want, and does so to near-perfection.
On the other hand, if you want greater control over your tablet environment, more openness to non-Apple standards (such as Adobe Flash), or greater ability to adapt to new technologies and standards as they emerge, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 could be the better option.
