iPhone 4S is one of the popular handset and one of the competitor handset is HTC AMaze 4G.

Amaze and iPhone 4S are set to be out 14 October, which one is better? Is it the HTC Amaze or iPhone 4S.

The Design

2nd: HTC Amaze: 130.0 x 65.6 x 11.8 mm, 173g

In terms of design Apple iPhone 4S is better than the HTC Amaze 4G mainly because the iPhone is smaller, sleek and lighter to carry than HTC Amaze.

Display

1st: iPhone 4S: 3.5-inch, 960 x 640px, 326ppi, LCD with IPS

2nd: HTC Amaze: 4.3″ S-LCD capacitive touchscreen 960 × 540

One of the big differences here is screen size, HTC Amaze has larger screen than the iPhone 4S and because it is 4G enabled, should be able to achieve faster upload and download speeds. As you can tell from the specifications list, both companies go “all-out” in two completely different ways. On iPhone 4S has an amazing “Retina” screen resolution while the Amaze 4G has excellent resolution as well, and puts a massive screen in your hand. The winner in this category will come down to personal preference.

Despite the smaller screen, iPhone 4S has a bit better resolution because of its very high pixel per square inch count . iPhone 4S is made of glass and metal, but Amaze 4G is made of aluminum. Futhermore iPhone 4S has better display as it have LED-backlit IPS TFT 3.5 inches capacitive touchscreen display and it supports the resolution of 640 x 960 pixels and Amaze 4G has S-LCD 4.3 inches capacitive touchscreen display (590 x 960 pixels).

Engine Room

1st: HTC Amaze: Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 Dual-Core 1.5GHz, 1GB

2nd: IPhone 4S   : Apple A5 (1GHz Dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor)

The PowerVR SGX543MP2 working the magic in the Apple A5 ( equivalent to almost 1GHz (800MHz) processor) seems to out-bench the Mali by quite some distance compared to the 1.5GHz  on the HTC Amaze. The iPhone 4S is powered by a Dual core A5 processor. According to Apple, the processing power is increased by 2 X and enables graphics that are 7 times faster and the energy efficient processor will improve battery life as well.

The iPhone 4S, Apple introduced iOS5. With over “200 new features and 4 key updates”, Apple has produced a very nice new OS. From Android’s side, Ice Cream Sandwich is rumored to be announced on October 11th, just one day before the official release of iOS5. Although no information is clear yet, Ice Cream Sandwich has been caught on camera and you can watch the full video below.

iPhone 4S is running on 512MB RAM while Amaze is 1GB RAM.

Camera

1st: HTC Amaze: 8MP rear, 2MP front camera 1080p video

2nd: iPhone 4S : 8MP rear, VGA front camera , 1080p video capture

Both phones have the 8MP rear ,and 1080 video capture. iPhone 4S camera is coupled with LED flash,  face detection in still images as well. The camera comes with useful features such as autofocus, tap to focus, face detection on still images and geo tagging. The camera is capable of HD video capture at 1080P at about 30 frames per second. In cameras it is important to have a larger aperture since it allows the lens to collect more light. The aperture in the lens of camera in iPhone 4S has been increased allowing more light to come in however, harmful IR rays is filtered away. The front facing camera is a VGA camera and it’s tightly coupled with FaceTime; the video conferencing application on iPhone

On the other hand with Amaze camera you get a clear short as the device use the High Dynamic Range feature to get more detail while taking pictures in high contrast lighting with a Dual LED flash means the camera double your flash power with two LED lights and capture amazing photos, even in less-than-ideal lighting situations, while iPhone 4S has only single LED flash. Another features which makes Amaze camera better than iPhone 4S is the 2MP front camera compare to VGA on the iPhone 4S.

HTC and T-Mobile tout the Amaze 4G's camera has two features purportedly take this 8-mexapixel shooter beyond. One is a new shooting mode called SmartShot, which works with portraits of people's faces. It takes five shots in quick succession and automatically brings the "best" elements of them all together. If you're blinking in one picture, making a strained expression in another, and moving your chin in the third, the final image should show open eyes and a smile, while all in focus. For this reason HTC Amaze has a good camera features

Connectivity

1st: HTC Amaze: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, 4G, Wi-Fi hotspot, HDMI out

2nd: iPhone 4S: 3G, GPS, BT, 4.0, Wi-Fi

Both phones have got the basics, although Amaze has WI-FI hotspot, DLNA. Amaze with HDMI-out is quite relevant these days as more and more devices become DLNA certified for you to stream you media to without wires.

Since, TVs tend to sit in our homes for a long time and there are probably more out there without Wi-Fi modules in them than with.

1st: HTC Amaze: 1730 mAh, Up to 8 hours Talk time

2nd: iPhone 4S  : up to 8 hours 3G talk time

Maybe not one of your biggest concerns, but the battery power behind these devices does show a difference. However, just because the Amaze 4G has a “better” battery in terms of mAh, Apple somehow finds a way to squeeze just as much juice out of their devices.

On the other hand there is complaints about the battery life which is reported to be worse that iPhone 3, for this resons HTC Amaze wins

Software

1st: iPhone 4S : iOS 5 + Siri

2nd: HTC Amaze: Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 and HTC Sense 3.0

OS offers more apps (most of them you have to pay for) and greater ease of use. Android tempts with more flexibility and greater customisation potential.

iPhone 4S is loaded with iOS 5 and usual applications one can find on an iPhone, such as FaceTime. The newest addition to the uniquely designed applications on iPhone is ‘Siri’; a voice assistant which can understand certain keywords we speak and virtually do everything on the device. ‘Siri’ is capable of scheduling meetings, checking weather, setting timer, sending & reading messages and etc. While voice search and voice command assisted applications were available in the market ‘Siri’ is quite a unique approach and sounds more user-friendly. iPhone 4S comes with iCloud as well, enabling users to manage content across multiple devices. iCloud wirelessly pushes files across multiple devices managed together. Applications for iPhone 4 S will be available on Apple App Store; however it will take some time for the number of applications supporting iOS 5 to increase.

  • the highly intriguing Siri personal organisation, voice recognition software that’s been hard wired in to the iPhone 4S
  • iOS 5 has basically robbed all the best bits of Android and integrated them in to its own UI. This is not intended as a slur. Android has done plenty of robbing itself and, it’s all to the consumer’s benefit if such systems borrow from one another. Right now, though, iOS is just a little fresher but that could all change when Ice Cream Sandwicharrives on the scene

On the other hand Amaze is running Andoid Gingerbread and gets the benefit of HTC Sense 3.0 UI which is known for its neat integration of your contacts and their details, as well as an excellent graphical look and feel.
